About hotel Vishuwa
Namaste and Greetings from Hotel Vishuwa!!
The new Hotel Vishuwa is the first and the only three-star luxury oasis in all of Birgunj, Nepal. This makes the hotel the only one of its kind in all of Birgunj.
The City of Birgunj
The City of Birgunj has been a bustling and vibrant, industrial and commercial city in south Nepal for already 100 years. It is situated in the Terai plains of Nepal, near the Indian border. This strategic location makes Birgunj a frequent destination for business travelers, executives of foreign projects and agencies, overland tourists, pilgrims and other visitors. There is a vast dry port being constructed in Birgunj at present. It signifies the importance of Birgunj as a strategic trade and transit junction between Nepal and India, and the world beyond.
Historical Background
The ancient word vishuwa comes from vicchu-wa. It means a resting place for vicchu(s) or Buddhist monk(s). The ancient pilgrims broke their journey at this very place in Birgunj between their long pilgrimage to Lumbini in Nepal and Bodh Gaya in India. Lumbini is the birthplace of Lord Buddha and Bodh Gaya is the hallowed ground where Buddha achieved his bodhi (enlightenment).
Meaning of Vishuwa
Vishuwa, therefore means a place of rest. The actual place is a stupa-like hillock with many huge statues of Lord Buddha facing the four cardinal directions of the Universe. Befittingly, this is also a quiet and tranquil park-like enclave for the city folks of Birgunj to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. People come here to enjoy a clear view of the city from under the foliage of a sprawling evergreen banyan tree
